Ashlan J. Kunz Coyne, PharmD, MPH, is an assistant professor of translational and clinical science in the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Her research focuses on the identification and treatment of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections with specific evaluations of (1) antimicrobial resistant (AMR) mechanisms and their impact on antimicrobial effectiveness, (2) antimicrobial pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) optimization and the (3) use of novel antimicrobials for refractory AMR infections. Kunz Coyne is a distinguished recipient of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Loan Repayment Program, which aims to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into research careers.
Kunz Coyne received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida. She then pursued post-graduate training at UF Health Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida, by completing an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited acute care pharmacy practice residency, followed by a year of specialty practice residency in infectious diseases. Upon completion of her residency, she maintained her interest in infectious diseases and pursued an American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) peer-reviewed pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and health outcomes pharmacotherapy postdoctoral fellowship at Wayne State University under the mentorship of Michael J. Rybak, while concurrently completing her Masters in Public Health.
Kunz Coyne is an active member of several professional pharmacy organizations, including the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists (SIDP), Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases (MAD-ID), the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
