Christine K. Johnson is Professor of Epidemiology and Ecosystem Health and Director of the EpiCenter for Disease Dynamics at the University of California, Davis. She is a wildlife veterinarian and an epidemiologist committed to transdisciplinary research to characterize impacts of environmental change on animal and human health and guide public policy at the intersection of emerging disease and environmental health. Professor Johnson’s research has developed new approaches to characterizing emerging health threats at the animal-human interface in rapidly changing landscapes that constitute “fault lines” for disease emergence, spillover and subsequent spread. She currently leads the EpiCenter for Emerging Infectious Disease Intelligence, one of NIAID’s Centers for Emerging Infectious Disease (CREID), together with a team of scientists investigating drivers for spillover and spread of emerging viruses. Dr. Johnson was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and was selected to be a Science Envoy for the US Department of State.
