Dr. Kevin Fennelly is a pulmonologist and Senior Research Physician in the Division of Intramural Research of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, USA. He was trained in both pulmonary and occupational-environmental medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver. His interest in protecting health care workers during the outbreaks of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in the 1990s led to his research interests in the infectiousness and transmission of TB. His clinical work in the U.S. has focused on the diagnosis and management of pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections. He is now the principal investigator of the 'Natural History of Bronchiectasis' protocol at the NIH Clinical Center that recruits a large number of patients with pulmonary NTM disease.
