Prof. Adrian Egli received his medical training at the University of Basel (1998-2004). He worked as a resident in internal medicine, focusing also on hematology and infectious diseases. He did the MD PhD program at the University of Basel (2006-2008, summa cum laude). His post-doctoral fellowship was in Transplant Infectious Diseaeses at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada (2011-2012). After his return to Switzerland, he specialized in Medical Microbiology. From 2015 until 2022 he headed the Divison of Clinical Bacteriology and Mycology at the University Hospital Basel. Since 2022 he is the Director of the Institute for Medical Microbiology at the University of Zurich.
His research focuses on host pathogen interaction, and providing risk assessment of pathogens (virulence and resistance) utilizing novel technologies such as genomics and proteomics, but also artificial intelligence based approaches.
