Dr. Butler is the Chief Medical Officer at CrescentCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center in New Orleans, Louisiana with a focus on patients living in marginalized communities, particularly those living with HIV, gender and sexual minorities, and those facing addiction. In her time at CrescentCare she helped develop services including a robust PrEP program, a Gender care program that is now one of the largest in the Gulf South, an embedded clinic within CrescentCare’s large syringe access program allowing immediate entry to care for HIV, HCV or urgent diagnoses. and early implementation of a rapid ARV program for individuals newly diagnosed with HIV as well as for those returning to care.
Dr. Butler received her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in addition to a Master’s in Public Health from the Tulane School of Public Health. She continued at Tulane where she also completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Disease Fellowship. She stayed on as Faculty in the Section of Infectious Disease. Her research focus at Tulane was development of neutralizing antibodies to Dengue virus, while clinically she worked to grow Tulane’s Ryan White clinic presence. She then joined CrescentCare where she served in several leadership roles focusing her efforts on direct clinical care and program implementation. She has published on the successes and challenges of disease management program implementation among marginalized communities in the deep south.
