Dr. Yokoe is a Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Divison of Infectious Diseases and serves as the Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Prevention at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Her research has focused on the development and evaluation of streamlined and reliable methods for performing surveillance for healthcare-associated infections, including surgical site infections (SSI), and detection of clusters of healthcare-associated infections.
She is the 2023 President of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).She has previously served as the co-chair of the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC), the federal advisory committee that provides recommendations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on issues relevant to infection prevention and control and preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
Dr. Yokoe co-led the creation of the SHEA- and Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA)-sponsored documents titled “A compendium of strategies to prevent healthcare-associated infections in acute care facilities” which were initially published in October of 2008, updated in 2014, and newly revised in 2022. The Compendium has been promoted by the IDSA, SHEA, the CDC, The Joint Commission, IHI, the American Hospital Association and many other professional societies and organizations as a tool to assist acute care hospitals in translating evidence-based recommendations for prevention of healthcare-associated infections into practice.
