Sara Karaba is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. She received her MD and PhD from Northwestern University. Her PhD research focused on type II protein secretion and secreted proteases of the emerging multidrug-resistant pathogen Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. She received her MHS in clinical investigation from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship training at Johns Hopkins and joined the faculty in 2021. Her current research interests include the epidemiology of multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens, optimal treatment strategies for multidrug-resistant pathogens, and improving antimicrobial stewardship in inpatient settings. She sees patients as part of the general infectious diseases consult service at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and she serves as the associate director for antimicrobial stewardship and associate hospital epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
