Consultant Physician
Rockingham General Hospital, Australia
My name is Dr Nimal Vijayaraghavan (MBBS, FRACP (General Medicine)) and I have been working as a Internal Medicine physician in Western Australia since 2022, following attainment of my fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in the field of General & Acute Care medicine.
I had graduated from Medicine in the United Arab Emirates in 2007. Over the last 16 years, I have been fortunate in obtaining extensive hospital experience in multiple healthcare centres around four Australian states including South Australia, Northern Territory, Canberra and Western Australia.
I have a robust and prominent interest in medical education and derive a lot of enjoyment from the teaching of Clinical Immunology and General medicine to healthcare professionals of varying backgrounds and clinical experience. In my clinical training years, I have provided teaching through several hospital-based education modalities including case presentations at hospital grand rounds, point-of-care teaching (eg. bedside teaching) and involvement of hospital medical teaching sessions. I am also responsible for arranging the medical education for the Department of Medicine at Rockingham General Hospital.
My research interests focus squarely on the areas of community-based health care, medical education and clinical reasoning, acute general medicine and clinical immunology (in particular allergy, autoimmunity and autoinflammatory disorders). I have achieved publication of a case series of atypical Giant Cell Arteritis presentations diagnosed by whole body-PET imaging with BMJ case report. In collaboration with Dr Ohide Otome, Infectious Diseases physician of St John of God Midland hospital and other co-authors, I have also conducted a case-control study to assess the efficacy of an algorithm-based electronic application as a point-of-care education tool on antibiotic allergies for healthcare workers. The results will be presented at the 2023 IDweek conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
My interests complement the holistic approach I undertake in patient care.
