Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer

Dr. Cassandra Schember is an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has been assigned to the California Department of Public Health in the Infectious Diseases Branch. While in EIS, she has worked on projects regarding wastewater surveillance, Legionnaire's Disease, Hepatitis A Virus, and Serratia Marcescens. Prior to EIS, Cassandra received her PhD in epidemiology, MPH with a concentration in epidemiology, and BA with a double major in anthropology and public health at Vanderbilt University. During her time at Vanderbilt, she worked with the Emerging Infections Program in flu surveillance and the Tennessee Department of Health in Hepatitis C and HIV surveillane. Her PhD dissertation work was on intimate partner violence, psychological distress, and HIV testing, and her MPH thesis work was on postpartum HIV care engagement.
