Kamal Hamed, MD, MPH, MBA is Chief Medical Officer at Spero Therapeutics, Inc. Dr Hamed holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of Beirut and a Master of Public Health Degree from The Johns Hopkins University. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at UMDNJ–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr Hamed worked as an academic physician for 14 years before joining Pharma in 2001, first at Bayer, then Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis, Basilea, Lysovant, and Spero. He has held senior positions in clinical development and medical affairs and has led the development of various anti-infectives throughout his Pharma career: antibacterials, antivirals, antimalarials, and antifungals. Dr Hamed has published over 110 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
