Dr. Monray E. Williams is a Senior Lecturer at North-West University in South Africa. He earned his BSc, BSc Honours, and MSc in Biotechnology from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, and holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Williams has specialized in the field of infectious diseases, dedicating his academic career to investigating the pathogenesis and neuropathogenesis of HIV-1. More recently, his research has centered on identifying variations in the amino acid sequences of HIV-1 viral proteins across different geographical regions. He employs a multifaceted approach, utilizing computational, in vitro, and in vivo methods to study the functional activity of these proteins. Dr. Williams is a prolific contributor to his field, with numerous publications to his name. His extensive research has garnered considerable grants, substantially supporting his ongoing investigations. Key publications include "An Investigation of the HIV Tat C31S and R57S Mutation on Peripheral Immune Marker Levels in South African Participants: A Pilot Study" published in the Journal of Medical Virology, and "Signatures of HIV-1 subtype B and C Tat proteins and their effects in the neuropathogenesis of HIV-associated neurocognitive impairments" published in Neurobiology of Disease.
