Dr. Tonia Poteat (she/her) is a Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing and a PA at UNC Infectious Diseases Clinic. Her research attends to the health of people living with and affected by HIV, particularly lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adults. Certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, she is a global leader in HIV care and research with transgender persons. Dr. Poteat earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Yale University, Master of Medical Science from Emory University’s Physician Assistant (PA) Program, a Master of Public Health from Rollins School of Public Health, and a PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
