Katrin Mende, PhD, Wound Infections Research Area Director at the Infectiouse Disease Clinical Research Progra, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics. I received my Diploma in Biology from the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany and my PhD degree from the Westfaelische Wilhelms University in Muenster, Germany. I hold an appointment of Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine/Biometrics at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. I am involved in a wide area of military-relevant research projects including combat-related traumatic injuries and associated infections, community-associated skin and soft-tissue infections in congregate settings, blood stream infections and antibiotic stewardship efforts. My clinical research interest also includes multidrug-resistant bacteria and infections caused by these bacteria, bacterial biofilms and invasive fungal infections.
