MD Candidate
University of Colorado
Ms. Ixchel Salter, BS, is a second-year medical student at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus with an interest in clinical risk factors implicated in viral and fungal diseases. Her research examines large volumes of patient health data to draw conclusions about cytomegalovirus (CMV) regarding risk factors, symptoms, and lab values associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Previously, Ixchel conducted research at the University of Minnesota where she explored radiologic indications of future hearing loss in asymptomatic neonates living with congenital CMV. Outside of the lab, she is a passionate leader within interprofessional education, helping to promote infectious disease awareness by establishing student led vaccine clinics, generating clinical vignettes that focus on the ethics of antimicrobial care, and fostering a team-based approach to healthcare within her medical cohort.
