IRTA Fellow
Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health
My name is Kiana Allen, and I am an IRTA Postbac within the Critical Care Medicine department at the NIH Clinical Center. I am under the mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Strich and Dr. Daniel Chertow, who study emerging pathogens and test the efficacy therapeutics in translational models. I started my Postbac fellowship in August 2022 and began researching antibody-mediated NETosis. I have conducted countless experiments to create an ELISA that builds and quantifies SARS-CoV-2 spike immune complexes using COVID-19 patient plasma. With the help of our Emerging Pathogens lab, I stimulated healthy neutrophils with these immune complexes to measure the induction of NETosis. To learn more about NETosis and our new data showing the inhibition of NETosis, please visit my poster (#249) or view it online!
Additionally, I have goals to attend medical school and continue researching as a future physician. At IDWeek 2023, I hope to share my data and methodology with fellows, scientists, and physicians.
