Geraldine Arevalo is a Science Research Specialist at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines. She is also an ongoing MS Public Health student specializing in medical microbiology and virology at the same university. Her entire scientific career has been focused on studying viruses which involves routine molecular testing of samples and analysis of molecular and genomic sequencing data. Since 2016, she has been part of the core team at the NIH that study and gather information on the molecular characteristics and drug resistance profile of HIV-1 in the Philippines. During the earlier days of the pandemic, Ms. Arevalo was also one of the volunteer NIH researchers who helped perform Covid-19 testing and she eventually used her knowledge and skill in molecular testing to train other medical technologists and researchers from different provinces in her country.
