I am a MD, Ph.D. specialised in internal medicine and infectious diseases. My area of expertise is in medical mycology, and my skills portfolio includes research in clinical and basic science, teaching, and industry experience. I graduated as a PhD in Molecular Medical Mycology at the University of Aberdeen in July 2020. Also, in 2020 founded a continuous medical education online platform called The Mycoloyeast aiming to improve the diagnostic skills on fungal infections. During my first postdoctoral experience, I was responsible for the setup of the first CL3/BSL SARS-CoV-2 laboratory in the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen, which I considered as part of my duty in fighting the pandemic. I have 18 published manuscripts (H-index=9) and 6 book chapters. During my time in the UK, I have acquired experience in grant applications, industrial contract research and grown a worldwide research network specially in UK and Latin America. Improving diagnostics in infectious diseases is important for me, and I have had the opportunity to contribute with improving the diagnostic capacities on respiratory viruses in my own country. I have served as scientific advisor for Mexican government on COVID19 and Monkeypox topics. Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher in the MRC centre for medical mycology at the University of Exeter studying Mucormycosis and bacterial endosymbiosis. My research interests are the study of 1) host-pathogen interactions during fungal infections, 2) Immune and antimicrobial effects of natural genetic variation found in human antimicrobial peptides, 3) Epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance in fungal infections, 4) Improving diagnostic capacities in LMIC
