Clinical Staff Pharmacist
Carle Health
Danielle E. Snodgrass, PharmD, BS is a Clinical Staff Pharmacist with Carle Health Systems in Peoria, Illinois. After attending Purdue University for pre-pharmacy and psychology, she attended University of New England (UNE) in Portland, Maine to begin her professional doctoral pharmacy studies. In May 2015, she graduated with both her Doctorate of Pharmacy from UNE and Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience from Purdue. Following graduation, she worked as a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager at Walgreens in the Peoria, Illinois area. In February 2021, Danielle decided to transition into a more clinical role and become a hospital pharmacist with UnityPoint Health, now Carle Health.
Quickly thereafter, she recognized her interest in Infectious Diseases and antimicrobial use and joined the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. As a member of this committee, she worked on various projects, including assessing surgical site infection rates in different surgical specialties and what could be done to prevent these infections. Also incorporated in this project was educating nurses and physicians on triaging patient-reported penicillin allergies in order to encourage prophylactic beta-lactam use in the preoperative setting. As a part of the AMS Committee, Danielle also assisted with editing and publishing newsletters and education documents, as well as helping to develop treatment algorithms for various prophylactic preoperative antibiotics for different surgical procedures.
Aside from the AMS Committee, Danielle rounded with physicians and mid-level providers, giving feedback on ID-related cases, assessing for potential stewardship interventions, and utilizing clinical surveillance tolls for assessing those stewardship opportunities. This hospital system recently transitioned to vancomycin AUC Dosing and assistance was provided for that transition, as well. Lastly, a larger project assessing the use of vancomycin in Emergency Department also developed, which is the topic of the poster presented at this conference.
