Infectious Disease Critical Care Physician
Emory University School of Medicine
My name is Lindsay M. Busch, MD. I am an early career physician scientist at Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. I am part of a unique community of dual-trained Infectious Disease and Critical Care Medicine trained physicians. My clinical and research interests are centered around the study of sepsis, particularly in immunocompromised hosts. My experience as an Infectious Disease consultant afforded me the opportunity to experience the vast heterogeneity of sepsis, with its wide-ranging clinical presentations and trajectory of disease inherent to different pathogens, sites of infection, and myriad host characteristics. As I expanded my clinical practice to include Critical Care Medicine, I became more attuned to individuals’ hemodynamic changes and variations in multisystem organ failure in response to antimicrobial therapy and supportive care modalities. My clinical work has informed by research interest, delving into the immune pathways and host-pathogen interactions associated with morbidity and mortality from sepsis. I work clinically both as a Transplant Infectious Diseases consultant and an Intensivist. I am pursuing translational research investigating the immunopathology of sepsis, with particular focus on immunomodulatory therapies.
