Dr. Fairley is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Global Health at Emory University School of Medicine & Emory Rollins School of Public Health. She did fellowship in infectious diseases at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland OH. During fellowship, she completed the Diploma Program in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She subsequently earned an MPH in global epidemiology from Emory University in 2016. Dr. Fairley joined Emory in 2010 and currently holds a primary appointment as associate professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases and a secondary appointment in Rollins School of Public Health in the Hubert Department of Global Health, where she teaches and mentors students. She also directs the Emory Hansen’s Disease Program, a satellite clinic of the National Hansen’s Disease Program, whose mission is to care for patients with Hansen’s disease (leprosy) and to raise awareness of the disease. Her research and academic interests center around the epidemiology of neglected tropical diseases, in particular, leprosy. Projects focus on the susceptibility, transmission, and morbidity of leprosy by investigating the role of parasitic co-infections and micronutrient deficiencies on those with M. leprae infection in Minas Gerais, Brazil and Gondar, Ethiopia. She has has clinical experience in emerging infectious diseases and travel related infections. She has been diagnosing, treating, and researching outpatitent COVID-19 since March 2020.
