Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
  • explain an ethical dilemma and other complex decision scenarios that may be happening simultaneously, such as lack of evidence, ambiguous legal or policy requirements, disagreements within professional teams, or disagreements with patients and families;
  • apply ethical reasoning to develop an appropriate/permissible action plan for patient care and to manage moral injury and mitigate burnout for the healthcare team;
  • analyze diverse approaches to ethical reasoning to challenges involving antibiotic use in end-of-life care;
  • apply diverse approaches to ethical reasoning to challenges involving patients who have fixed beliefs regarding health/healthcare, including endorsing misinformation or conspiracy theories
