Tobi Karchmer, M.D., M.S., is Chief Medical Officer for Baxter Healthcare. As CMO, Dr. Karchmer leads the WWM organization which includes Global and Regional Medical Affairs, Global Patient Safety, Clinical Research and Development, and HEOR/RWE. Dr. Karchmer has also served as the medical expert for the Baxter global COVID response team.
From 2007 - 2019, Dr. Karchmer worked for Becton Dickinson (BD), where she had leadership positions across the business units and corporation in Medical Affairs, New Product Development, Clinical Research and Patient Safety.
Prior to joining industry, Karchmer was an assistant professor of Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and was the director of Hospital Epidemiology for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Dr. Karchmer is actively engaged in Baxter’s activities related to social justice, diversity and inclusion and is the executive sponsor of Baxter enAbles, a business resource group of Baxter employees who support inclusion, awareness and respect for those living and working with disabilities. Dr. Karchmer also serves as a member of Baxter's Global Inclusion Council.
She received a bachelor's degree in biology from Princeton University, a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and a master's degree from the University of Virginia
