Dr. Shirley Delair is the associate dean of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), the division chief of pediatric infectious diseases at University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the director of the pediatric residency global health track.
Her areas of clinical interest include pediatric and adolescent HIV, tuberculosis, and travel medicine. Her research interests and publications are in global health with a special emphasis on maternal child vertically transmitted infections, neonatal sepsis, micronutrient deficiencies, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections in adolescents. Dr. Delair is involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education through her work in global health with a special interest in workforce development to address limited English proficiency in medical practice.
As the inaugural associate dean for DEI at the UNMC college of medicine. Dr. Delair has developed initiatives to enhance recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce in addition to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Dr. Delair completed her medical degree at the Universidad CES in Colombia, her pediatric residency at Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in New Jersey and her fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the Mattel Children’s Hospital/UCLA in California. She holds a Master of Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology from UNMC. Dr. Delair is board certified in pediatrics, pediatric infectious diseases, and a Fellow of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society.
