Dr. Thakur is the Winifred Mercer Pitkin Assistant Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City where she specialized in neuroinfectious diseases, global health and emergency neurology. Her research encompasses both local and international scientific studies on the prevention and early diagnosis of neuroinfectious diseases, with a focus on neurotropic viral infections. Her expertise in the field of neuroinfectious diseases have focused on her dedication to improving our ability to rapidly detect neuroinfectious diseases of outbreak potential and reducing the burden of neuroinfectious diseases globally particularly in vulnerable, marginalized populations. In addition to being a clinician-scientist, Dr. Thakur conducts implementation studies on neurological disorders including viral encephalitis, bacterial meningitis (BM) and tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) as consultant to public health agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She is funded as a clinician-scientist by the NIH and CDC. She also serves on the Scientific Advisory Panel of the International Encephalitis Society.
