Jo-anne Salangsang Klein, MD, MS, FIDSA is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and is currently in a solo employed 100% ID practice at Tidelands Health in South Carolina. She is an international medical graduate, having completed her medical degree at the University of the Philippines. She initially worked as a rural physician in the Philippine countryside, providing community-based health services and implementing public health projects for indigenous tribes, farmers, and fishermen in underserved remote villages. She completed Internal Medicine residencies at both the Philippine General Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic, OH, followed by ID fellowship and a MS in Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh, PA. After two years in an academic setting performing research on antimicrobial resistance, she pivoted to clinical ID and was in private group practice in Pittsburgh, PA for many years, also performing roles in Infection Prevention (IP) and Antimicrobial Stewardship programs (ASP) in community hospitals. Since transitioning to her current position during the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been a volunteer in the IDSA Clinical Affairs Committee, with special interests in wellness, the electronic health record, telehealth, coding, and payment. She is an active member of IP and ASP committees at Tidelands Health, and enjoys networking with like-minded ID colleagues who have a passion for improving the experience of ID physicians in clinical practice.
