Christina is an Infectious Diseases physician-scientist and is internationally recognised for her clinical and research expertise in cryptococcal meningitis (CM) and cryptococcosis-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (C-IRIS). She completed her medical degree and physician training in Melbourne, and has extensive international clinical experience, particularly in resource-limited settings. As part of her PhD on C-IRIS immunopathogenesis, she established a cohort of 130 HIV-CM co-infected persons in Durban, South Africa. She held an Australian NHMRC Early career fellowship on HIV prevention and cure and extended her international clinical trial experience working on investigational new agents for the treatment of COVID-19 with the INSIGHT clinical trial network. She currently works at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne on the transplant and HIV service, is a principal investigator at Nucleus Network where she runs early phase studies and is an honorary senior lecturer at Monash University, Melbourne and at CAPRISA, Durban. She led the Australasian cryptococcosis guideline and is the lead author for the European Congress of Medical Mycology global cryptococcosis guideline.
