Dr. Thien-Fah Mah is a Professor in Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology, and the Director of the Microbiology and Immunology Graduate Program, at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Mah completed her PhD training in Jack Greenblatt’s lab at the University of Toronto and her postdoctoral training in George O’Toole’s lab at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
Dr. Mah is a molecular microbiologist focused on understanding the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in microbial biofilms. Her analyses have utilized both in vitro and in vivo models of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms. Dr. Mah’s research has been funded with over $2.0M from major Canadian funding organizations including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), Cystic Fibrosis Canada, the Lung Association and the Bickel Foundation. She has published 41 articles in high-profile journals including Nature, Science, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Journal of Bacteriology and ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering.
