Dr. Woodworth's research is focused on the translational investigation of live biotherapeutic products like fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). He is the sponsor-investigator for two ongoing CDC-funded clinical trials of FMT to treat colonization with multidrug resistant organisms (MDRO) and co-led the first randomized controlled trial of FMT for renal transplant recipients with MDRO colonization. He also uses integrated genomic and metagenomic approaches to better understand MDRO colonization and to identify potential mechanisms of action of FMT. Dr. Woodworth's work has been funded by NIAID, CDC, and the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation.
