Dr. Brett Case is a former postdoctoral fellow and current Instructor in Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the Washington Unversity School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Brett has over 13 years of research experience in the areas of virology and immunology. During his predoctoral research at Vanderbilt University, he identified and defined key functions of coronavirus non-structural proteins. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which began during his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Diamond, he quickly pivoted his studies back to coronaviruses. In response to SARS-CoV-2, he has lead or co-lead the development of multiple animal models of disease, de novo designed mini-proteins , SARS-CoV-2 vaccines , and the development and preclinical characterization of multiple monoclonal antibody treatments. In addition, Brett was indispensable in highly collaborative studies that led to the discovery and pre-clinical development of the monoclonal antibody treatments Evusheld, Sotrovimab, and the variant-matched Moderna mRNA-LNP, and BBV154 EUA approved vaccines. The entire duration of Brett's postdoctoral fellowship has been funded through external sources including an NIH T32 training grant, a Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, and currently, a Moderna Global Fellowship.
