Dr. Okeoma Mmeje is an Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School. As a physician-researcher, Dr. Mmeje has expertise in reproductive infectious diseases and general obstetrics and gynecology, focusing on treating and preventing sexually transmitted infections and recurrent vaginitis. As a researcher with more than ten years of experience, Dr. Mmeje has led academic teams in implementing and evaluating reproductive health programs to improve access to sexual and reproductive health services for historically marginalized communities and populations. Dr. Mmeje is also the Associate Chief Clinical Officer for Health Equity for the University of Michigan Medical Group at Michigan Medicine. In this role, Dr. Mmeje is a champion for improving equitable access to and delivery of healthcare services while developing, implementing, and assessing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in academia to foster an environment where all are welcomed, accepted, valued, and supported. As a leader, Dr. Mmeje capitalizes on her expertise in organization, project management, and communication skills to produce results and improve clinical, research, and systems-based outcomes.
