Sarah Kandil MD is a Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Critical Care Medicine) at Yale School of Medicine, Director of Pediatric Sedation Services and the Deputy Quality and Safety Officer at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital (YNHCH). She works in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and oversees the Pediatric sedation services throughout the children's hospital. In addition, as a Quality and Safety officer she focuses on reducing harm from safety events and improving outcomes, for which she is a leader both locally and nationally. Dr. Kandil has led initiatives to successfully reduce unplanned extubations, improve delirium within the ICU, improve pediatric sepsis outcomes, and incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion curricula into simulation curriculum. Her academic interests focus on aligning clinical research and quality improvement science. She co-chairs the research work group for the Children’s Hospital Association Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcomes (IPSO) and sits on the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) research work group. Most recently, she has also investigated using quality improvement science to establish and implement best practices for consent for clinical research trials.
