Valley AIDS Council/Westbrook Clinic
Dr. Dora A. Martinez, M.D., is the former Chief Medical Officer of the Valley AIDS Council (VAC), the only AIDS Service Organization serving the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, where she continues to provide services as a volunteer. She provides treatment for patients living with and at risk of acquiring HIV in this unique and underserved population along the Texas-Mexico border. She is an advocate for patients as a former member of the Texas DSHS HIV Clinical Panel and Texas DSHS HIV Medication Advisory Committee, and continues to serve as a member of the Texas HIV Syndicate. She is a certified American Academy of HIV Medicine HIV Specialist. She is a clinical professor of Family and Community Medicine for UTHSCSA and UTRGV, and is the former Clinical Director for VAC’s South Central AETC local performance site. She is an alumna of Rice University and UTHSCSA-SOM and is a board certified Family Physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She has previously received the Pfizer Teacher Development Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians and has participated as a CLAS (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services) standards technical advisory group member for the Office of Minority Health. She recently joined ViiV Healthcare as a Regional Medical Director in May of 2023 (employment started after the study being presented had concluded).
