Assistant Professor
Jimma University and Ludwig Maximilian University, Ethiopia
Mulatu Gashaw Adbaru is an assistant professor of clinical microbiology at Jimma University's School of Medical Laboratory Science. He primarily works in teaching microbiology courses to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. In addition to his teaching, Mulatu also works at Jimma Medical Center's Microbiology Laboratory and Core Research Laboratory. He has been actively involved in various national and international research projects since 2015. Some of the projects he has worked on include SIP, HELP, ERNEST, ESTHER AMR, and COMBAT AMR. His previous research projects have focused on topics such as healthcare associated infections, neonatal sepsis, infection prevention and control, community surveillance of Helicobacter pylori infection, and antimicrobial resistance carriage and transmission in bacterial clades of the environment, animals, and humans.
Currently, Mulatu is pursuing his Ph.D. in Medical Research and International Health at the Center for International Health, Ludwig Maximillian University (CIHLMU). His Ph.D. research project is to determine the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, molecular epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, and understanding the transmission dynamics of the antimicrobial-resistant genes in bacteria isolated from the environment, animals, and humans using One Health approach.
