Theodore Pak is a clinical and research fellow in Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). He completed his AB in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard College in 2011, and worked for several years as a software engineer before completing an MD and PhD at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. For his graduate thesis, he analyzed RNA-seq and mass cytometry immune profiles of arboviral infections in humans and created the PathoSPOT phylogenomics toolkit, which analyzes whole genome sequences of clinical microbiology specimens to identify and visualize likely nosocomial transmissions. He currently works with Dr Michael Klompas and Dr Chanu Rhee of the Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Institute and Harvard Department of Population Medicine on the enhancement of large retrospective studies of sepsis patients, using statistical learning and artificial intelligence methods on electronic medical record data. His current research interests include the integration of sequencing technology into infection control surveillance and potential uses for large language models in antimicrobial stewardship interventions.
