Dr. Amy Van Abel, PharmD, BCPS is an ambulatory care infectious diseases pharmacist with Mayo Clinic Health System in southeast and southwest Minnesota. She received her PharmD from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and completed her PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI. She went on to practice as a clinical inpatient pharmacist and then antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI, followed by further practice experience in home infusion.
Her current practice focus includes management of outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) and complex outpatient antimicrobial therapy (COpAT), as well as outpatient antimicrobial stewardship across more than 20 ambulatory care locations throughout the health system. She precepts pharmacy students as well as PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacy residents, and additional interests include quality improvement, mycobacterial infections, and transitions of care.
