Colton Boney is 3rd year medical student from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM). While in undergraduate studies at Florida State University, Colton founded HIV/HCV treatment programs for Good Samaritan Clinic in Santa Rosa County, Florida. There, he utilized the organization’s grant funding to create a countywide program for PrEP care for those without insurance. Now in medical school, Colton runs ACOM’s Addiction Information Coalition which helps prepare students to care for patients with substance use disorders while helping to train the public on naloxone administration. He provides supplemental lectures on LGBTQ+ healthcare topics for students and staff at multiple medical schools. For his endeavors at the intersection of HIV care, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and harm reduction, he was awarded the Phil Papel Memorial Scholarship for LGBTQ+ Activism. Additionally, he was awarded a 2023 IDSA G.E.R.M. Grant recipient to research how consolidating HIV testing and treatment guidelines may increase care provided in non-specialty or resource limited settings. Outside of medicine, Colton works with the Navarre Beach Wounded Warrior Surf Project to provide accessible beach days to veterans and their families ensuring their service to our country does not leave the Gulf Coast out of reach.
