Mayo Clinic
Matt Thoendel is an assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. He earned his MD and PhD at the University of Iowa where he studied Pseudomonas biofilms and Staphylcoccus aureus quorum sensing. He then went to Mayo Clinic for his residency and infectious diseases fellowhip training as part of the clinician-investigator track. During this time he began working with Dr. Robin Patel to develop metagenomic shotgun sequencing as a tool to identify pathogens causing prosthetic joint infections. He has since joined the faculty at Mayo Clinic where he continues to work on using metagenomic shotgun sequencing to investigate pathogens from other infectious syndromes.
