PhD Candidate
University of Houston College of Pharmacy
Cole Hudson is a 3rd year Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD candidate at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy under the mentorship of Dr. Vincent Tam. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry with University Honors from the University of Houston in 2021. Cole first became interested in antimicrobial resistance working as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Tam's lab where he studied the hydrolytic efficiency of various KPC enzymes. In 2021, Cole entered the PhD program and has since completed several research projects focused on MDR gram negative bacteria. These have included performing LC-MS/MS analysis / pharmacokinetic modelling of antimicrobials, evaluating pharmacodynamics of novel antibiotic combinations, investigating the renal toxicity of polymyxins and aminoglycosides, and identifying nephroprotective compounds to attenuate antibiotic-associated kidney injury. His dissertation project focuses on performing preclinical evaluation of reporpused nephroprotectants to reduce polymyxin and aminoglycoside-associated nephrotoxicity and provide treatment options for MDR gram negative bacterial infections. Cole's overall career goal is to become a prominent pharmaceutical scientist and develop new therapeutic solutions to the AMR crisis.
