Hello! My name is Sapan Munisff and I am a current undergraduate student at New York University studying public health coursework. I am interested in the optimization of our healthcare system as I believe there is a large room room for improvement. Working with the Infectious DIseases clinic at the University of Rochester Medical Center has allowed me to begin accomplishing this. Our study focuses on the practicality and efficiency of various aspects of OPAT treatment. OPAT is outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, which means home IV antibiotics. Patient's require IV antibiotics for a number of reasons, and there are a number of forms this treatment can take. We surveyed patients, as well as home health agencies and infusion pharamacies which provide services directly related to OPAT. We gained insight into the OPAT treatment program at URMC and hope to use this information to improve the program. We hope we can set an example for OPAT treatment programs at other institutions as well.
