Dr. Luisa M. Stamm, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Development Leader at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute. She is focused on various programs aligned with the mission of the Gates Foundation, including a vaccine for shigellosis, a monoclonal antibody for prevention of RSV disease in infants and next-generation regimens for treatment of tuberculosis. Previously, she was Chief Medical Officer at Assembly Biosciences, and led a development team focused on a cure for chronic hepatitis B infection with core inhibitors and other candidates with complementary mechanisms. Prior to that, she worked at Gilead Sciences on the clinical development of sofosbuvir-based therapies for chronic hepatitis C infection and of broadly neutralizing antibodies for HIV cure. She received MD and PhD degrees from University of San Francisco, California, and completed her clinical training in internal medicine and infectious disease at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. She has a BA in Biochemistry from Harvard University and spent a year in Brazil as a Fulbright Scholar.
