She is microbiologist, pediatrician, and pediatric infectious disease specialist currently serving as a Professor and Director of the Pediatric Clinic A in the SM-UdelaR of Uruguay in Montevideo. She was Director of the Department of Pediatrics and specialties of the Children’s Hospital of the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center (PH-CHPR) since 2015 to 2018.
Dr. Pírez earned her medical degree from the UdelaR, Uruguay. Before dedicating herself fully to her pediatrics teaching career, she taught in the Department of Bacteriology and Virology in the SM-UdelaR. Her current main responsibilities include teaching, care, and investigation activities at the (PH-CHPR), and the course Specialyst in Pediatric Infectology in the SM-UdelaR. She was a member of the advisory committee on vaccination of the ministry public health, since 2000 until February 2015, since 2022 she is an integrate of this committee. She was president of the Honorary Commission for the control of Tuberculosis and Prevalent diseases (CHLA-EP), in charge of the vaccination and distribution of vaccines since 2014 to 2022; since 2022 represent the Ministry of Health in CHLA-EP
Her researches has been published in national journals, Arch Pediatr Urug, An Fac Med, Rev Méd Urug and in international journals: Archives of Disease in Childhood, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Revista de Saúde Pública, Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, Int J Infect Dis, Int J Microbiol, Rev Chil de Infectol, Anales de Pediatría (Barcelona), Expert Review of Vaccines, International Journal of Infectious Diseases, BMC Public Health, Rev Latin Infect Pediatr, Heliyon, Frontiers in Pediatrics, International Journal of Health Science and Vaccine. Member of the Committee of Infectology and Vaccines of the Uruguayan Society of Pediatrics and past president of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Infectology (2003-2005).
