Surveillance Specialist I
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
In 2018, prior to starting her junior year of college, Stephanie had spent her summer as a student intern at MSKCC, working in administration for the Surgery Research summer program. Because of the vast amount of knowledge she learned during her internship and the high quality people she worked with, Stephanie always hoped to return to MSK once she had graduated, in any facet possible. Stephanie completed her undergraduate education at Providence College in Rhode Island with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry and Biology. Following a sudden end to college as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was fortunate enough to land a job at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City working in the Infection Control laboratory as a technician doing C. diff DNA typing. While she did not have much knowledge of what infection control was, thanks to her amazing manager she began to learn more and more about the field and was exposed to many aspects of hospital infection control. As a result of this exposure, Stephanie decided to pursue a career in IC and is now in the process of getting her Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology while she continues to work at MSK. Stephanie currently works as an Infection Control Surveillance Specialist at a prominent New York City cancer center, focusing on syndromic surveillance of patient cases, outbreak investigations, C. auris and Legionella. She is very fortunate to have been selected to present at ID week and is looking forward to learning a lot!
