Postdoctoral Associate
Baylor College of Medicine
Santiago serves as a postdoctoral Associate at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) within the Division on Global and Immigrant Health. His primary research revolves around tuberculosis (TB) and other infectious diseases. Presently, Santiago holds the position of an NIH-Fogarty research fellow, dedicating his fellowship term to BCM in Mbabane, Eswatini. Under the guidance of Dr. DiNardo, Dr. Anna Mandalaka, Ntombifuthi Ginindza BsC Msc, and Dr. Daniel Musher, he is delving into a project centered on examining the immunological mechanisms following TB treatment that contribute to increased mortality rates among patients who have effectively undergone anti-tuberculous therapy.
Operating as a physician-scientist, Santiago employs a multi-omics approach within his biological analysis strategy, which he combines with clinical data. The objective of his endeavor is to comprehensively elucidate the immunological processes underpinning post-TB conditions. By harnessing this advanced scientific methodology, his ultimate aim is to address the disparities prevalent within this vulnerable population.
