Dr. Lucero is a Medical Epidemiologist for the Veterans Health Administration Public Health National Program Office and a Hospital Epidemiologist for the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. She completed her bachelors degree at the University of California, Berkeley; medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, residency at Children's Hospital of Pittburgh of UPMC and served as a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer prior to joining VA. Her research focus and interests include respiratory viruses (influenza, RSV and SARS-CoV-2), viral gastroenteritis (including norovirus), fungal infections (including coccidioidomycosis), emerging infectious diseases, infection control and hospital epidemiology, outbreak and lookback investigations and public health informatics.
