Caroline Hyun Sue Kim, MSc, is a fourth-year medical student at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, VA. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northeastern University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. Caroline has research experience domestically and abroad. As an undergraduate at Northeastern University, she worked at the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research (IHESJR) in Boston, MA, where she examined mothers’ barriers to completing outpatient substance use recovery. Caroline also worked at the Centre for Development, Evaluation, Complexity and Implementation in Public Health Improvement (DECIPHer) in Cardiff, Wales, where she studied intimate partner violence and child and adolescent development. She continued her training at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she read MSc in Epidemiology with a focus on infectious diseases. Caroline has published various research articles in peer-reviewed journals on public health interventions, intimate partner violence, and infectious diseases and has won numerous research awards and fellowships. Most recently, she was the recipient of IDSA's G.E.R.M. (Grants for Emerging Researchers/Clinicians Mentorship) Program for her work examining the implications of ophthalmology consults for patients with Candidemia.
