Maura Manion is an infectious disease physician at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the HIV Pathogenesis Section. Dr. Manion’s specific focus in the laboratory is the characterization of the immune response during paradoxical reactions and Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS) in patients with different immunocompromised states ( i.e. HIV/AIDS, HSCT) and different mycobacterial diseases including tuberculosis. Dr. Manion is the principal investigator on a protocol focused on paradoxical reactions in patients with tuberculosis.
Dr. Manion earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University, and she underwent her internal medicine residency training at Case Western University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She completed her fellowship training in infectious disease at NIAID. Additionally, Dr. Manion serves as core faculty for the NIAID fellowship programs and is a proud mother of three.
