Clinical Professor and Medical Director of Research

Dr. Al-Hasan is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He is the Chief of the Infectious Diseases Division and the Medical Director of Research in the Department of Internal Medicine. He is the Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence at Prisma Health-Midlands in South Carolina. Dr. Al-Hasan is a founding and advisory board member of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Collaborative of South Carolina and a former president of the South Carolina Infectious Diseases Society.
Dr. Al-Hasan received his medical degree from the University of Jordan and Internal Medicine residency at the University of Kentucky. He completed Infectious Diseases fellowship and Certificate of Clinical Research Training Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During that time and afterwards, he received mentorship from Dr. Larry Baddour as they worked together on numerous projects on the epidemiology, outcomes, and treatment strategies of bloodstream infection.
Al-Hasan has established himself as a prominent figure in the fields of bloodstream infection, antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several journals of infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, and antimicrobial agents.
