Dr. Vergidis is an Associate Professor of Medicine and an Infectious Disease specialist with expertise in Medical Mycology and infections in immunocompromised patients. He completed his Infectious Diseases training at Boston Medical Center and specialized in Transplant Infectious Diseases at the Mayo Clinic. He was on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and the National Aspergillosis Center at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Vergidis serves as the Director of the Hematology-Oncology Infectious Disease Service and the physician lead for the Outpatient Antimicrobial Program at Mayo Clinic. He is the director of the Microbiology Course at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters. He is the site principal investigator for several clinical trials on novel antifungal medications.
Dr. Vergidis serves on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Infectious Disease Approval Committee and the Board of Directors of the Mycoses Study Group Education & Research Consortium (MSGERC). He is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and the European Confederation of Medical Mycology. Additionally, he is an editor for ASM Microbiology Spectrum and a scientific committee member for Clinical Microbiology & Infection.
