Medical Epidemiologist

Dr. Michael Melgar is a medical epidemiologist in CDC's Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division, where he serves as co-lead of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices Work Group for prevention of RSV in adults. He also works on hospital-based surveillance of respiratory viruses through CDC's RESP-NET surveillance network. Before joining CDC, Dr. Melgar obtained his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He then completed training in epidemiology as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in CDC's Center for Global Health.
