Naomi Aronson M.D. is a Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) Professor of
Medicine and the Director of the USU Infectious Diseases Division since 2000. For a decade, she was
Director, Leishmaniasis Center of Excellence at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, caring for hundreds
of leishmaniasis patients. She was chair of the IDSA/ASTMH leishmaniasis guidelines committee that
prepared the first North American clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis.
She is a member of the NIH, CDC, committee on Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of
Opportunistic Infections in Adult and Adolescents with HIV (global medicine section). She is an editor of
the textbook “Hunter’s Tropical Medicine and Emerging Infectious Diseases” which has always had a
military editor. She conducts both clinical and laboratory-based research on translational topics related
to both cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis.
